Hi, Stuart.

I have to respectfully disagree. It does promote good will and charity etc but fundamentally, it is a Christian holiday. It is a conglomeration of 2 words, Christ and Mass, and both are grounded in the religion of Christianity. Yes, there is some wonderful "spirit" that resonates in communities and I'm not saying get rid of all the accessory good will that accompanies it. And I don't want to even begin to refer to how the capitalist economy has undermined it's spiritual underpinnings all for the sake of $$ in their coffers.

And I'm not saying don't celebrate Christmas. Please do if you're so inclined. Give to food banks, give to other charitable organizations. That's all a good thing and shouldn't just happen in one short couple of weeks in the beginning of winter. I just want it removed as a statutory holiday from public school calendars and if possible, from the Western nations governmental calendars.

We don't get any other religious statutory holidays in the Western calendar; just Easter and Christmas. No Muslim holidays, no Bahai holidays, no Buddhist holidays, no Jewish holidays, no Wiccan holidays, etc.
